For dogs:

The expertise of a specialist surgeon

At the Veterinary Clinic Paris 17, the Doctor Hugues Journaux collaborates with a specialist orthopaedic surgeon who regularly moves to our premises. This partnership allows us to offer surgical procedures high technology while ensuring close monitoring.

Our external surgeon has extensive expertise in modern orthopedic surgical techniques, particularly in the TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) and TTA (Tibial Tuberosity Advance) interventions for the treatment of cross ligament ruptures, as well as in advanced d-osteosynthesis techniques for the repair of complex fractures.

An Orthopedic Care Less Constraint

During our orthopaedic surgery, we prefer an intradermal suture technique, which leaves no visible thread on the surface. This modern method not only improves the post-operative comfort of your animal, but also the quality of healing. The main advantages:

  • Faster healing;
  • Less visible scar;
  • Your animal cannot access the wires with its teeth, which allows:
    • No dressing necessary;
    • In most cases, the collar is not required, even after complex surgery.

When to consult for an orthopaedic problem?

It is important to consult quickly when you observe in your pet:

  • Persistent or intermittent lameness
  • Difficult to get up or climb stairs
  • Swelling in a joint
  • An abnormal position of a member
  • A reluctance to exercise or play
  • Signs of pain during manipulation

Early management of orthopaedic problems often avoids complications and improves the long-term prognosis.

Our veterinary clinic in Paris 17 also offers other types of surgery complementary to general surgery:

Frequently Asked Questions on orthopaedic surgery

Find here the answers to the most frequently asked questions on this subject.

Recovery times vary considerably depending on the intervention performed and the animal concerned. For a simple fracture, count about 6 to 8 weeks of recovery. For joint surgery such as TPLO, complete recovery can take 3-4 months with a gradual resumption of activity under veterinary supervision.

Depending on the type of intervention, your animal may need to wear a splint, bandage or collar to prevent it from licking or biting its wound. We will provide you with all the necessary instructions for the management of these devices at home.

Age is not in itself a contraindication to orthopaedic surgery. Each case is assessed individually taking into account the general state of the animal, the concomitant diseases and the expected benefit of the intervention. In-depth pre-operative reviews are used to assess specific risks.

In some cases, conservative treatments may be considered: strict rest, anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy, or external orthopaedic devices. These alternatives are discussed during the consultation, but some pathologies require surgery for an optimal result.
